This week we’d like to introduce you to one of this year’s most influential, and celebrated type designers. His famous typefaces GRAND SLANG, COSI AZURE, and COSI TIMES are beautiful mixed forms between display types, sans serif, and sometimes almost serif. Hitting the right note between sophistication and anarchy you’ll find Nikolastype fonts within many anticipated and award winning designs. We are super happy to share Nikola’s beautiful thoughts.

1 — HOW
WOULD YOU
DESCRIBE
YOUR WORK?
A transmission of emotions, experiences and impressions that I deeply love, mean something to me, or simply magically attract me, expressed through design and letterforms.
2 — DO YOU
HAVE A WORK
METHOD THAT
YOU VALUE?
I believe, the foundation of every great work starts at the intention, and if these are pure and honest, paired with an uncompromisingly burning desire and deep love for your idea, you will always find a way to make it happen in an exceptional, true way. Sometimes, maybe you should try to „know“ less, and feel more, sometimes, your instinct and emotions can lead you into more exciting directions than a conceptual and strategical „correct“ approach.
In a team, I cherish pure and brutal honesty, mixed with a warm and open family feeling, really making a lot of compliments and congratulations all the time to the little achievements and progress, so that everybody could fully flourish at its best, not being afraid of truly being oneself, really feeling sound, having a good, great time.
Seeking out for counterweights if you collaborate, can be a wonderful Idea, so together, you can become something bigger, rather than living in a monoculture.
3 — WHAT
SHOULD
DESIGN BECOME
IN THE FUTURE?
Besides the fact that designers will save the world and live in unsayable richness, being the only human force that can’t be taken over by an AI Robot — pretty much like any creative — it will hopefully evolve more to what it is already today: a powerful, magical, universal, sensitive and deep language, spreading beauty, joy, peace, clarity and true-to-the-core expression all around.
Simply said, people will cherish design much more and discover its full potential, they will understand that it’s not only a superficial layer, but going much deeper into each and every DNA and soul in an elegant, desirable way. Hopefully it will become more music.
And hopefully it will be used for the good cause, more than simply gaining more money and power.

4 — THINGS
YOU DRAW
INSPIRATION
FROM?
Beautiful feelings from the inside, beautiful thoughts, fantasy, memories, visions, ideas, impressions from every little or big thing, even like super mundane things, that are making you feel excited, good, cozy, calm, turned on, good or warm inside.
5 — A THING
YOU HAVE
LEARNED THAT
YOU WANT
TO PASS ON
TO FELLOW
CREATIVES
Shelter the spirit that once kept you on track becoming a creative. Do not compare yourself too much to others more than becoming a sincere fan of what they do and really dig it, strip it down to the core, so you develop a deep understanding for your desire and the work of the ones you admire.
Never be afraid to say no. As a matter of fact, it took me many years to say no, but this is absolutely essential. Saying yes when you actually mean no inside, is one of the most dangerous things you can do. It’s okay to be your worst judge, it is crucial to reflect hard and straight honest — but on the other side, never forget to also become your biggest fan and deeply, deeply love yourself and what you do.
If you have a true love and passion for something, this is fully enough. You are fully enough. You are terrific.
